Pathfinder
Designed by John Welsford
The bigger Navigator people kept asking for. The requests were specific: a flat space to sleep on that does not need the floorboards rearranged, room for a family of four adults, more speed, more range, a motor in a well, somewhere to put the gear. What Welsford had in mind alongside that was a serious cruiser, with full buoyancy and about the largest size two people can right after a swamping, capable in a head sea, which is the weak point of nearly every small boat, and able to make progress in genuinely nasty weather. She carries the Navigator yawl rig and will heave to head to wind with the mizzen sheeted hard.
The bigger Navigator that owners kept asking for: a serious cruising dinghy with full buoyancy, real stowage, a flat space to sleep on that does not need the floorboards rearranged, and room for four adults. His page carries the reasoning behind her rather than a table of dimensions.
What building a Pathfinder actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
