Houseboat 20

Designed by Emile Ajar

A 20 ft houseboat drawn by Emile Ajar for Bateau / Boat Builder Central, plan HB20, based on a 1960s magazine design. In 20 ft it has a separate forward cabin, enclosed head, galley and saloon, a large cockpit, a real foredeck and an optional flying bridge, sized for a family of four. Beam 9 ft, draft 6 in, hull weight 1,750 lb, 15 to 50 hp.

Stitch and glue with cleat framing under the sole and glassed outside seams. Nearly every plywood cut is square, so the designer rates it easy to build. The designer's figure is under 200 hours for hull and superstructure plus 200 more for finishing. Real hours from logged builds are below.
