Snipa Capella no. 7
Designed by Bertil Andersson
Capella is the only named snipa among the Skåne double-enders, built in 1945 by Olle Andersson at Svanshall in Kullabygden. Her rig and sails were already gone when she was measured in October 1979, so what survives is the hull: slim for her length, sharp at both ends, and built to be rowed easily as well as sailed, which is what the name snipa properly means.
She is 5.49 m long and 1.74 m wide, the longest of the Kullabygden snipor, and drawn on three 1:10 sheets: construction, frames and lines. The lines sheet makes her a reasonable basis for a traditional open double-ender, provided the builder is prepared to design or borrow a rig.
What building a Snipa Capella no. 7 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
