Ocracoke 20

Designed by Graham Byrnes

A 20 ft Carolina style centre-console by Graham Byrnes of B&B Yacht Designs. Beam is 7 ft 8 in, transom deadrise 13 degrees, bare hull about 1,350 lb and power 70 to 150 hp. B&B reports 42 mph with five adults aboard on only 90 hp. The hull is cold molded plywood over an egg crate frame, with two diagonal 4 mm layers on the sides, sheathed inside and out in biaxial glass. Plans include full-size mylar templates, and CNC framing kits can be supplied.

The designer states plainly that this is not an introductory stitch and glue boat, but that a patient builder used to wood, epoxy and glass will manage it. Budget 1,000 to 1,800 hours as a rough guide. Measured medians from build logs appear below.
