Multichine 23
Designed by Roberto Barros
The boat that started the Multichine series. Roberto Barros drew her in the late 1970s as a 7.20 m cruiser an amateur could build without a mould, and the designers say dozens were built in a short time. Eleven plywood bulkheads are set up on bearers and joined by keel and chine stringers, then planked in plywood and covered with a heavy layer of fibreglass.
She has been revised several times since: the MkII widened the transom, the MkIII added a wedge shaped cabin trunk for more headroom, and a MkIV followed. Inside there is a 3 m settee berth long enough for two, a saloon for four, galley, heads and a forward double. The single spreader rig carries 25.9 square metres and is meant to be easy to handle alone, and the fin keel comes in a deep version or a shallower one with a bulb.
What building a Multichine 23 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
