Designed by Dudley Dix
A multi-chine plywood cruiser racer by Dudley Dix, originally 9.75 m (32 ft) and later stretched to 10.15 m (33 ft 4 in) with a sugar scoop stern and a 10 percent larger sail plan. It won the 1979 Cruising World magazine design competition. Dix built one for himself, Concept Won, sailed her for seven years and reports 18 knots downwind on many occasions. The later version displaces 4,475 kg and sets 509 sq ft.
Ease of building for amateurs, including first-timers, was a prime aim: epoxy coated plywood over chine logs, stringers, frames and bulkheads, with a flat centre panel to avoid a keel seam. Expect 3,500 to 5,000 hours as a rule of thumb. The medians below come from builders who logged this boat here.
