Vickers 45
Designed by Dudley Dix
A 45 ft 5 in (13.85 m) pilothouse cruising cutter by Dudley Dix, commissioned in fiberglass as a motor-sailer meant to be sailed. This original version has a poop deck, centre cockpit, raised saloon with a view from the dinette and an aft owner's cabin, under a double spreader cutter rig of 948 sq ft with a 60 to 80 hp diesel. Fiberglass boats are Airex cored with 1.5 m wing or 1.9 m fin keels; a radius chine steel version displaces 15,400 kg. The aft cockpit 45AC shares the hull.
A one-off in cored fiberglass or steel is work for an experienced amateur or a yard. As a rule of thumb, expect 8,000 to 12,000 hours. Measured medians from build logs appear below.
What building a Vickers 45 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
