Blue Streak
Designed by Grandpa's Archive
Blue Streak is a William D. Jackson racing utility, Craft Print Project No. 185, built for Class B outboards in stock utility races. Her hydro-conic bottom lets her ride up on the prop, and the article reports 39 mph with a Mercury Hurricane and one person aboard, and 46 mph with a Quicksilver lower unit. Upswept sides are meant to keep her flat in fast turns.
The structure is deliberately simple: two frames, a transom and a removable mold, with a stressed-skin plywood hull that the article said would carry up to three people in a chop. Materials were put at $85. The scan includes building photographs of the frames on the form, the chines and clamps being sprung in, and the seam batten at the bow. A free download for anyone curious about 1950s outboard racing.
What building a Blue Streak actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
