Model boat kit
Independence R/C Sailing Model
Kit by Chesapeake Light Craft
The Independence is a 48 inch radio controlled sailing yacht developed by Eric Schade with Dave Jackson, and a one design class, so boats can race each other fairly. At least a hundred have been built, including in classes at the WoodenBoat School and at Pequot Yacht Club on Long Island Sound.
Chesapeake Light Craft sells it as precut okoume plywood and timber parts for stitch and glue construction, or as plans and a manual. The beam is 11 inches, the sail area 7 square feet and the hull about 15 pounds. The lead keel, hardware, sail and radio gear are sourced separately, and CLC rates it intermediate at about 60 hours.
What building a Independence R/C Sailing Model actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
