Panga 22
Designed by Jacques Mertens
A 22 ft 9 in panga by Jacques Mertens, sold by Bateau / Boat Builder Central as the PG22. It answers builders who wanted Outboard Dory simplicity with a vee hull, and is based on the long, slim panga workboat type. Beam is 6 ft 9 in, draft 8 in, hull weight about 1,100 lb with console and tank, displacement 2,000 lb, and power is 50 to 75 hp.
Stitch and glue in method but a true sandwich of plywood between directional glass. The designer notes that a long, slim hull is easier to plank. His figure is 40 hours for the hull and 100 or more finished. A first build more often runs 300 to 500. Logged build hours for this design are shown below.
What building a Panga 22 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
