A 22 ft high-performance expedition sailboat drawn by Graham Byrnes of B&B Yacht Designs for the Everglades Challenge, 7 ft 3 in wide and drawing 6 in with the board up. The race demands a boat that the crew can launch off a beach, unrig quickly for low bridges, row, and sail in very thin water while still handling the Gulf of Mexico. In 2007 Byrnes and his crew set a Class 4 record of 2 days 8 hours 56 minutes that stood for six years.
Unlike the Core Sound boats, the hull is built over a jig from full-size mylar patterns for stations and bulkheads, so some building experience is advisable. Budget 1,200 to 2,000 hours as a rough guide. Real hours from logged builds are below.
