Flat Chat 16
Designed by Mark Bowdidge
A 4.87 m flats boat by Mark Bowdidge of Bowdidge Marine Designs, named after the Australian slang for full throttle. With only 6 degrees of deadrise and roughly 160 mm of draft on a 2.13 m beam, she is drawn for shallow salt and fresh water: barramundi and mangrove jack at home, redfish and snook elsewhere. The layout has a centre console, a forward casting deck and a 130 litre underfloor tank, and the maximum is 90 hp.
Construction is plywood composite with level flotation, from 12 plan sheets with full-size bulkhead patterns. The low-profile hull is fairly simple to plank, and the designer says most of his builders are beginners. No designer hours exist; budget 350 to 600. The medians below are from builders who logged this boat here.
