Inlet Runner 16

A 15 ft 11 in (4.86 m) garvey powerboat by Dudley Dix, commissioned by a Chesapeake Bay fisherman for fishing and swimming in the shallow inlets around the Bay. It is stitch and glue plywood, 9 mm hull and 6 mm decks, about 180 kg for hull and deck, in flat deck form rated to 50 hp or centre console form rated to 100 hp.
The man who commissioned it had little woodworking experience and had never built a boat, yet his won runner-up in the powerboat division at the WoodenBoat Show in Mystic. Tabbed and slotted parts, illustrated instructions, optional patterns and CNC kits all help. Budget 250 to 400 hours as a rule of thumb. Real hours from logged builds are below.
