Pacific Troller Dory
Designed by Paul Butler
A 16 ft cut down version of Butler's 19 ft gun dory, which he admits is more boat than most people need. The Pacific Troller keeps the same look in a smaller, lighter double chine hull that can be cartopped, rows easily and, properly equipped, will handle open water.
Five full length plywood panels are stitched together with plastic ties and taped, with the bulkheads acting as forms, so no strongback is needed, and both ends are identical so one plank pattern serves four times. Four chines, compartments, butt blocks, seats and laminated gunwales replace ribs and frames. A motor can go on a side mount or in an internal well, and a typical well is included in the 36 page plans.
What building a Pacific Troller Dory actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
