Millie Hill 20
Designed by Sam Devlin
A 20 ft houseboat by Sam Devlin, the smallest of his Millie Hill shanty boats and built stitch and glue. It is a tiny home on the water that can stay in a small slip or move to a quiet backwater under a small outboard. Beam is 8 ft 2 in and draft 12 in. The design notes describe a wood cook stove and galley, and sleeping for four using the settees.
Study and construction plans are sold, and the Devlin site has a gallery of build photos. The barge-like hull is quick to put together, and most of the time goes into the cabin and interior. As a rule of thumb, budget 800 to 1,500 hours. Measured medians from build logs appear below.
What building a Millie Hill 20 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
