Dix 61
Designed by Dudley Dix
A 60 ft 8 in (18.5 m) performance cruiser by Dudley Dix with a deck saloon and dual steering stations, drawn as a staysail schooner for short-handed sailing and later given an alternative cutter rig. The specified construction is sandwich fiberglass with a PVC foam cored hull and balsa cored deck; aluminum or cold molded wood can be detailed instead. Displacement is 22,000 kg with 9,000 kg of ballast, and power is 100 to 200 hp through one or two engines.
A one-off cored fiberglass hull of this size is a project for a professional yard or a very well resourced and experienced builder. As a rough guide, expect well over 10,000 hours. Measured medians from build logs appear below.
What building a Dix 61 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
