A 38 ft 1 in (11.6 m) cruising tug yacht by Dudley Dix, commissioned by a retired couple who live aboard on Chesapeake Bay. It pairs an elliptical tug stern and pilothouse with a light trawler-yacht underbody. The original has a radius chine steel hull and deck with an aluminum superstructure; since 2008 there are also drawings for an all-wood boat with a cedar strip planked hull and plywood deck and house. With a 135 hp diesel it cruises at 9 knots for about 1,250 nautical miles. A motor-sailer version exists.
Longitudinal framing keeps the metalwork simpler to fair, but this is still a large liveaboard project needing welding or serious woodworking experience. As a rule of thumb, allow 5,000 to 8,000 hours. Real hours from logged builds are below.
