Westport Dinghy
Designed by Platt Monfort
A 29 lb stow aboard tender for cruising sailors who would rather not tow a dinghy behind them. It has full, traditional lines and carries two or three medium sized people in protected water. The designer is firm that it is a rowing boat: he advises against an outboard because it rows so easily.
No length or beam is published on the plan page. The light weight is what makes it practical to lift on deck, and it gets that from the Geodesic Airolite construction of slender wood longitudinals over stations, Kevlar roving lashed diagonally for stiffness and a shrunk polyester covering. Plans, a partial materials kit, or both together are offered.
What building a Westport Dinghy actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
