Design
Whitehall Jr.
Designed by Platt Monfort
Whitehall Jr. is a small pulling boat with classic Whitehall lines, kept deliberately simple so that it is relatively easy to build. At about 20 lb it can go on a car roof and into the water with no planning, and it will carry two medium sized adults if treated with some respect. Monfort says it rows like a feather and that 7 ft 6 in oars feel too long until you are underway.
To keep the center of gravity down the plans show a cushion on the bottom rather than thwarts, though low thwarts can be added. Its lines were the starting point for the Classic 12, which broadens the beam to take a sail. Construction is skin on frame with Kevlar bracing and a heat shrunk polyester skin.
What building a Whitehall Jr. actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
