Alenu 540
Designed by Cristian Pilo
A 5.4 m double sea kayak by Cristian Pilo of Modern Wooden Boat, the two-seater in his family of stitch and glue touring kayaks for coastal cruising and sea camping. The designer describes it as a compromise between hull length, load capacity and initial stability. Beam is 69 cm, the finished boat weighs about 26 kg, the crew range is 130 to 190 kg and the recommended maximum load is 215 kg. Plans are sold through Nautikit, with optional 1:1 template files.
Built from 4 mm okoume plywood panels wired together, glued with thickened epoxy and taped on the chines. Cristian Pilo rates the family for builders with basic woodworking experience and quotes 60 to 85 hours depending on skill. Measured medians from build logs appear below.
What building a Alenu 540 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
