Coho
Designed by John Lockwood
A 17 ft 6 in touring sea kayak by John Lockwood of Pygmy Boats, 23 in in beam and about 39 lb. Pygmy describes it as quick-turning and drawn to track without a rudder, with more rocker than its other singles and enough volume for expeditions; two paddlers took Cohos 1,300 miles down the Inside Passage for the film Paddle to Seattle. Sea Kayaker readers voted it best wooden kayak in 2011.
Stitch and glue from a kit of pre-cut 4 mm okoume panels with fiberglass cloth and tape, within reach of a careful first-time builder. Pygmy's site says kit production is suspended and its showroom closed, so kits are currently unavailable. Budget 80 to 120 hours. The medians below come from builders who logged this boat here.
What building a Coho actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
