17' 11" Outer Island

A 17 ft 11 in low-volume sea kayak on West Greenland lines by Jay Babina (Jason Designs), with cedar-strip kits from Newfound Woodworks. It is 21 in wide, about 45 lb, with 275 lb capacity and a 7 in rear deck for layback rolls. Aimed at intermediate and advanced paddlers, it is fast and tracks firmly, yet has strong secondary stability and rolls easily. It fits paddlers to about 6 ft 3 in.
A full strip kayak, built here on a box-beam strongback with CNC-cut forms. The long, fine ends reward careful stripping. As a rule of thumb, budget 220 to 320 hours. The medians below come from builders who logged this boat here.
