Daysailer

Built by O'Day

A 16 ft 9 in centerboard daysailer drawn by Uffa Fox and built by O'Day from 1958. Well over ten thousand were built, which makes her one of the most numerous small sailboats in America. A small cuddy forward gives somewhere to stow gear and keep the spray out, and the cockpit is large enough for a family.

Uffa Fox drew a hull that planes, so she is considerably livelier than most boats bought for the same purpose, and the class still races one-design. On an old one the jobs are predictable: a soft deck where the core has taken water, a centerboard trunk that leaks, and the original rudder fittings. Parts are easy because so many were made.
