Mia 15
Designed by Andrew Walters
Builders liked the 12 ft Mia enough that Andrew Walters stretched her. Mia 15 measures 15 ft 1 in with the same 5 ft 4 in beam, keeps the original forward section and spends the extra length on more room between the two cockpits, more space behind the rear seats and a proper motor well. Like Mia, she draws on William Jackson's 1955 Ace and on the 1950s runabouts of Hal Kelly.
She is a tape and epoxy plywood boat with a bare hull of roughly 270 lb, designed for short shaft outboards of 10 to 30 hp. The designer's figures say 10 hp will plane her with one person, 15 hp with two and 30 hp with four. The bottom is specified in 1/4 in plywood so it bends easily at the bow, with a note that a second epoxied layer can be added if the boat will see hard use.
What building a Mia 15 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
