Bass Boat

A home-built answer to the bass boat, drawn to be simple, cheap and dependable while carrying as many fishing features as would fit. She is just over 15 ft, which is deliberate: it keeps her on the popular trailers rated under 750 lb. The flat bottom has full-length strakes and a semi-V at the chines, and she is quick and manoeuvrable behind an outboard of 20 hp or less.
The fitting-out is where the design earns its keep. An unobstructed carpeted cockpit with side-mounted pedestal controls, a forward locker for the anchor and trolling motor, six side lockers for bait wells, safety gear, tackle and floats, an ice bucket and cutting board in the console, four trolling pole mounts in the corners, a trolling motor mount on the forward railing, oarlocks on the side lockers and tow hooks fore and aft. Two seats fit any of four mounts, high on the fore and aft decks for fishing or low in the cockpit for running out of the wind, and the passenger seat can face aft for skiing.
