Trixie
Designed by Andrew Walters
Trixie is a 7 ft 2 in plywood tender with a 4 ft 6 in beam, worked out so that every panel comes from two sheets of 1/4 in plywood with almost nothing wasted. The sides are 8 ft strips with parallel long edges and the bottom is a full 4 ft wide, which is what produces her short, beamy shape and lets her ferry three people and their provisions out to a mooring.
She weighs around 70 lb bare. The unusual detail is underneath: two skegs, each carrying a 4 in plastic wheel, so she can be pulled across a car park and down a slipway, though Andrew Walters doubts they would manage sand or mud. The skegs and wheels can be left off. Oars, an outboard of about 2 hp, an electric motor or a simple sail rig, supplied as a supplement, will all move her.
What building a Trixie actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
