Hommebåt no. 22

Designed by Bertil Andersson

The hommebåt was the eel boat of Skåne's east and south coasts, named after the ålhommor, the fyke nets set from the beach and some way out to sea. This one came from Kämpinge; her builder and age are unknown, she is oak throughout, and her interior was missing when she was measured in September 1980.

Skåne has no sheltering archipelago, so the boat had to carry heavy gear and land on open sand, and might be launched and hauled up three times a day while the nets were tended through the dark autumn nights. Builders adapted the Blekingseka for it, flatter in the bottom and with many more strakes, but locally it was always a hommebåt. She is 4.97 m by 1.72 m, on three 1:10 sheets: construction, frames and lines.
