Naskeag 16
Designed by Dudley Dix
A 16 ft 2 in (4.92 m) plywood sailing dinghy that Dudley Dix drew for WoodenBoat, for publication in the magazine and for building by WoodenBoat School students. One multi-chine planing hull takes three rigs: a 123 sq ft balanced lug for relaxed cruising, a 170 sq ft sloop for club racing, or a Turbo rig with trapeze and asymmetric spinnaker. The self-draining cockpit sleeps two adults for camp cruising. Hull weight is 150 kg.
Construction is stitch and glue in 4 mm okoume over a permanent interlocking ladder frame of backbone and bulkheads. Plans include full size paper patterns, and CNC kits are sold in several countries. It suits amateurs or professionals. Budget 400 to 700 hours as a rule of thumb. Real hours from logged builds are below.
What building a Naskeag 16 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
