Rundgatting no. 15

Designed by Bertil Andersson

A rundgatting is a round-sterned double-ender: when a slim snipa could not carry enough for offshore fishing, builders filled out the bow and stern, and the result was no longer really a snipa. This one was built of oak around 1940 by Herman Persson at Hällevik in Blekinge.

In Bohuslän the type became the Kosterbåt, and Blekinge builders were making decked rundgattingar by the late 1800s, which oddly came to be called Blekinge kostrar. At 4.45 m by 1.68 m this one is short and beamy, and she was measured in July 1980. The set is a full four sheets at 1:10, sail plan, construction, frames and lines, which makes her one of the more complete small sailing boats in the collection.
