Core Sound 20

A 20 ft cat ketch daysailer and camp cruiser by Graham Byrnes of B&B Yacht Designs, commissioned as a boat that could beat the Core Sound 17 and launched in 1999. Stitch and glue plywood, 500 to 600 lb, 155 sq ft of sail and a draft of 8 in with the board up. It won the two-day Independence Day race and has since won its class in the Everglades Challenge. A CNC kit joined the long-standing plans in 2020.
The pre-shaped panels are wired along the keel and opened like a book, with no lofting, jig or strongback, which keeps it within reach of a determined first-time builder. Budget 500 to 900 hours as a rough guide. Real hours from logged builds are below.
