Saltaspiaggia
Designed by Cristian Pilo
A 6.1 m minimal coastal cruiser by Cristian Pilo of Modern Wooden Boat, 6.72 m overall; the name translates as beach-hopper. The multichine hull has a shallow lifting keel drawing 0.30 m raised and 1.00 m down, 200 kg of ballast, a trailerable 2.20 m beam and about 650 kg light displacement. The modest 7/8 cutter rig sets a 10 square metre main, a 6 square metre jib and a 13 square metre reacher and and a 6 to 10 hp outboard sits on the transom.
The designer pushed stitch and glue plywood about as far as it goes here, describing the build as a dinghy on steroids, and includes a drawing for a home-made wooden mast. Budget 800 to 1,400 hours. Measured medians from build logs appear below.
What building a Saltaspiaggia actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
