30 ft Deadrise Boat Petrel
Designed by Jay R. Benford
A 30 ft design from Jay Benford's catalog, drawn for carvel planked, plywood or steel chine construction, so the same hull can be built in whichever suits the shop. One of the Deadrise Boat group, built on simple sawn frames, which is the plainest construction in the power range. The Ladybug and Strumpet trawler yachts grew out of these.
Benford publishes a displacement of 13,800 lb in coastal cruising trim, which is tanks full with the crew and their stores aboard rather than a shipping weight. Plans are sold to owner-builders, and study plans are sold separately for anyone wanting to look before committing.
What building a 30 ft Deadrise Boat Petrel actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
