17' Ruderkanu
Designed by Boatkits
A 5.20 m rowing canoe, one of the largest canoes from Boatkits, sold as a CNC-cut stitch-and-glue kit by the kit arm of Denmark's Boatplans ApS. A full 1.00 m beam gives passengers room and comfort and suits it to rowing trips of all kinds, and the page credits the hull shape with good seakeeping. It is meant mainly for oars but can be paddled like an ordinary canoe. Weight is about 30 kg.
A long hull with several panels a side, still within a beginner's reach. Boatkits gives 70 to 80 hours for hull and structure only and puts fairing, paint and outfitting at 1 to 1.5 times that again. A rough budget is 140 to 200 hours. Real hours from logged builds are below.
What building a 17' Ruderkanu actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
