Spray 27
Designed by Bruce Roberts-Goodson
The Spray 27 exists because builders of the Spray 22 kept asking for a stretched version that could still go on a trailer. The result is 27 ft on deck with a 2 ft 9 in draft and a towing weight around 3,300 lb, large enough for a small family. Bruce Roberts reports a few hundred sailing worldwide; one wooden example was built by a German sailor, and a reader in Iowa launched his alone.
Two layouts are drawn, a regular trunk cabin and a pilot house, and either can carry a gaff rig, a Bermudan sloop or a junk rig, the last popular with Spray owners for its easy handling. Plans cover wood and epoxy, fibreglass, steel and aluminium, with cutting files for the metal versions. A 10 hp auxiliary is specified.
What building a Spray 27 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
