19 ft Sailing Dory
Designed by Paul Butler
A big single chine dory drawn by Frank Davis that Butler counts among his most popular plan sets, and one he owned himself for years as a camp cruiser. At 19 ft it carries far more than its drawings suggest, with space for two rowing stations, piles of gear and sleeping aboard under a canvas cover. Butler pictures it on the islands north of Olympia or in Desolation Sound.
It can be built entirely traditionally or in light plywood and epoxy, and the four large sheets show a mix of both. Under oars it averages around three knots, and the 78 sq ft spritsail rig has spars short enough to stow inside the hull. It gains stability as it is loaded, and a small outboard can be clamped to the transom.
What building a 19 ft Sailing Dory actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
