Cape Cutter 19

A 5.8 m (19 ft) on deck traditional trailer sailer by Dudley Dix, first drawn as a GRP production boat for Cape Cutter Yachts and sized to ship inside a 20 ft container. Amateurs build it in lapstrake plywood. It displaces 1,100 kg, sets 253 sq ft of gaff or Marconi rig, sleeps four, and uses a centreplate or bilge keels. One GRP boat, Theo's Future, sailed around England in 2008, and there is an owners association.
The plywood hull is planked over stringers, bulkheads and an interlocking plywood backbone, and the plans include full size mylar bulkhead patterns, with pre-cut kits also sold. It suits a careful woodworker. Budget 1,000 to 1,500 hours as a rule of thumb. Real hours from logged builds are below.
