Surf Scoter 22
Designed by Sam Devlin
A 22 ft 8 5/8 in outboard pilothouse cruiser by Sam Devlin, for which Chesapeake Light Craft cuts a CNC plywood hull kit; the plans themselves are bought separately from Devlin. This Cruiser model is an updated Surf Scoter with a cabin 18 in longer than the Pilothouse version, giving an enclosed head, a larger galley, 6 ft 4 in headroom and two berths that convert to a double. Beam is 8 ft 1 1/2 in, displacement 3,940 lb, and a 90 hp outboard gives 26 mph.
CLC rates it advanced, for builders who read traditional plans and own stationary tools. CLC's estimate is 800 hours; a fully fitted-out cabin boat of this size can run 1,500 hours or more. Real hours from logged builds are below.
