Trika 540 by Klaus Metz

Designed by Klaus Metz

A 17 ft 9 in demountable trimaran by Munich designer Klaus Metz. Chesapeake Light Craft cuts the plywood parts kit, while plans and instructions are bought separately from Metz or, in the United States, from Dudley Dix. The main hull is a fast two-person kayak on its own; add crossbeams, retractable amas and an unstayed two-piece mast and it becomes an 84 sq ft sloop in about 25 minutes without tools. Beam is 129 in, weight about 154 lb, and it cartops with the amas stowed inside.

Stitch-and-glue, but CLC rates it advanced: builders work from plans and source spars, sails and timber themselves. CLC's estimate is 150 hours; budget 200 to 350 including the rig. The medians below come from builders who logged this boat here.
