Wood Duckling 8
Designed by Eric Schade
An 8 ft children's kayak by Eric Schade for Chesapeake Light Craft, a scaled adaptation of the Wood Duck series for paddlers of 35 to 100 lb. It weighs just 22 lb rigged, is 24 in wide, and has a real watertight hatch. CLC tested it afloat at 220 lb. Construction is the same stitch-and-glue okoume plywood as the larger boats, with an optional sapele deck. Kit boxes are small enough to ship by UPS, and plans are sold.
CLC describes it as the quickest kit in its catalog and a good first project for a child with parental help. Its text says about 50 hours and its skill block 70. Budget 50 to 80. The medians below come from builders who logged this boat here.
