Josephine 40
Designed by Sam Devlin
A 40 ft 9 in displacement power cruiser by Sam Devlin, adapted to stitch and glue construction from Josephine, the 1934 wooden salmon troller he owns and cruises. The aim was the look of the original with more room and less weight. Beam is 12 ft 3 in, draft 53 in and displacement 28,000 lb, or 42,000 lb with a full fish hold. Idea drawings range from a working troller to a motorsailer and a flybridge expedition yacht.
The Devlin site offers study plans that lay out the options, with the final configuration worked out with the designer. This is a project for an experienced builder. As a rule of thumb, expect 8,000 hours or more. The medians below come from builders who logged this boat here.
What building a Josephine 40 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
