A 42 ft 1 in aft-pilothouse motorsailer by Sam Devlin, drawn for an East Coast couple as a true 50/50 boat instead of a sailboat with an auxiliary. A low-aspect ketch rig of 481 sq ft on tabernacle masts is meant to stretch the 1,500 nautical mile range under power to better than 3,000. Beam is 12 ft 1 in, draft 5 ft, displacement 28,000 lb in the specification table, with twin 50 hp diesels or a single larger one. A large mid cockpit, a working bridge and a saloon seating six.
Study plans are sold and Devlin offers it as a custom build. This is a professional-scale undertaking, and a rule-of-thumb estimate runs to 8,000 hours or more. Measured medians from build logs appear below.
