Maine Skiff

A 9 ft 7 in flat-bottomed skiff with a 4 ft beam, drawn by Walt Simmons of Duck Trap Woodworking in 1976 and built by the hundreds since. The designer suggests her for youngsters, pond fishing and trips out to a mooring. She can be planked in cedar or plywood, lapstrake or not, and the one-sheet plan gives the dimensions of a single side panel.
This was the teaching boat in Duck Trap's early classes, and the page shows one built by two teenagers in about a week. A manual breaks the job into 40 lessons of about an hour each, which is the designer's own measure of the work. A solo beginner might budget 60 to 120 hours.
