Didi 27 Retro
Designed by Dudley Dix
An 8.35 m (27 ft 5 in) radius chine plywood sportboat by Dudley Dix with classic styling, which he calls a gentleman's sportboat. Most of the hull is his Didi 26, reworked with a plumb bow, an extended stern, a springier sheer formed by tapering bulwarks and a modern Marconi rig of 496 sq ft. Displacement is 1,500 kg, with a fixed or lifting keel at 1.7 m draft and about 3 ft 1 in of headroom.
Dix notes that amateurs with little or no boatbuilding experience have finished good boats in this plywood range, and pre-cut kits and foils are available. Budget 1,500 to 2,200 hours as a rule of thumb. Real hours from logged builds are below.
