Didi Mini
Designed by Dudley Dix
A 6.5 m (21 ft 4 in) radius chine plywood offshore racer by Dudley Dix, drawn to the Mini 6.5 class limits for a client who wanted to build a competitive Mini himself. Beam is 3.0 m, draft 2.0 m, light displacement 850 kg and upwind sail area 437 sq ft. It began with a fixed keel and water ballast, and a canting keel with forward daggerboard was added later. Dix reports plans sold for 90 boats in ten years.
Minis are normally beyond most amateurs, and this design exists to change that through plywood, a stitch and glue cabintop, builders' notes and pre-cut kits. Rig and keel work still ask for care. Budget 1,500 to 2,500 hours as a rule of thumb. Real hours from logged builds are below.
What building a Didi Mini actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
