Dix 43 HD
Designed by Dudley Dix
A 13.35 m (43 ft 10 in) radius chine cruising cutter by Dudley Dix, a variation of the Dix 43 commissioned by a British couple as their blue water cruiser. It has a trunk cabin, aft cockpit and fixed dodger, and is currently detailed only in aluminum, built from cutting files by Alumar. Displacement is 14,300 kg with 5,500 kg of ballast, draft 1.8 m, headroom 1.94 m, and sail area 970 sq ft. The first boat was launched in the Czech Republic.
Aluminum welding is a specialist skill, so this suits a professional yard or a builder with proven aluminum welding experience. A steel version would need modified cutting files. Expect 7,000 to 10,000 hours as a rule of thumb. Real hours from logged builds are below.
