Shearwater 45

Designed by Dudley Dix

A 44 ft 3 in (13.5 m) on deck classic cruiser by Dudley Dix, the big sister of the Shearwater 39 with the same clipper bow, sheer and champagne-glass stern. It was named Best Traditional Voyager and Best Cruising Boat in the Cruising World Boat of the Year 2001 awards. Construction is fiberglass sandwich with Airex cored hull and balsa cored deck, and a wood material list is also published. Rigs are a cutter or a raked staysail schooner of about 1,150 sq ft. Displacement is 12,500 kg.

All layouts put the engine amidships under a U-shaped galley. A one-off at this size suits an experienced builder. Expect 8,000 to 12,000 hours as a rule of thumb. The medians below come from builders who logged this boat here.
