Dix 43 Pilot
Designed by Dudley Dix
A 13.35 m (43 ft 10 in) radius chine pilothouse cruising cutter by Dudley Dix, sharing its hull with the Dix 43. The pilothouse allows sailing with good visibility under full shelter. Dix says the hull is well proven, with many Atlantic crossings and passages between Cape Town and the Indian Ocean islands. Steel is the primary material, designed beyond ABS offshore racing yacht rules, and aluminum boats have also been built. Displacement is 14,300 kg, sail area 984 sq ft, and draft 1.45 or 1.8 m.
Cutting files are available for both metals, which shortens the hull stage, but the builder needs welding ability and lifting gear. Expect 7,500 to 11,000 hours as a rule of thumb. Measured medians from build logs appear below.
What building a Dix 43 Pilot actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
