Fishing 30
Designed by Dudley Dix
A 29 ft 6 in (9.0 m) hard chine steel fishing and work boat by Dudley Dix, commissioned as an inexpensive, robust vessel for open-water fishing and also suited to harbour service, salvage, short-haul cargo or ferry duty. Hull and deck are steel on longitudinal stringers over transverse frames, with an aluminum or plywood pilothouse in a choice of three lengths. It has an insulated 4 cu m hold, displaces 5,500 kg loaded, and takes 25 to 80 hp, giving 7.2 knots with 25 hp.
The cabin material can be chosen to suit the builder's skills, but the steel hull needs competent welding. As a rule of thumb, allow 2,000 to 3,500 hours depending on the cabin chosen. Measured medians from build logs appear below.
What building a Fishing 30 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
