Little Creek 47
Designed by Dudley Dix
A 47 ft 3 in (14.4 m) steel blue water cruiser by Dudley Dix, commissioned by American clients to live aboard on Chesapeake Bay. The original has a poop deck, aft saloon, staysail schooner rig and a hydraulic swing keel giving 1.05 m draft with the keel up; fin keel and cutter options were added later. Twin outward-angled rudders give control and let the boat stand upright aground. Displacement is 14,900 kg and power is a 75 hp diesel.
The hull is multi-chine steel with only the topside chine radiused, to a constant 1 m. Building one needs welding experience, and the swing keel version adds hydraulic work. As a rule of thumb, allow 7,000 to 10,000 hours. Real hours from logged builds are below.
What building a Little Creek 47 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
