Classic 12
Designed by Platt Monfort
One of the most popular Geodesic Airolite designs, the Classic 12 is styled after the New York Whitehalls and fitted with a skeg. Its lines follow the Whitehall Jr. with the beam widened to take a sailing rig, and the transom is strong enough for a small outboard. It carries three 200 lb people.
Under sail the short rig drives it easily and it stays surprisingly stiff in a breeze, which the designer puts down to a ballast ratio of about six to one with the crew aboard. The big skeg that keeps it running straight also makes it slow through the wind, so it has to be sailed through each tack. It shares station shapes with the Classic 10 and Classic 14.
What building a Classic 12 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
